# Manage your Heym account

> Change your name, photo and language, turn on two-factor authentication, log out, and delete your Heym account, with 30 days to change your mind.

Your account settings hold your name, photo and sign-in email, two-factor authentication, and the option to delete your account. The language is under **Preferences**. This page walks through each one. Billing has its own page: [Start, change or cancel Pro](/help/subscription.md).

## Open your account settings

Click your name at the top of the sidebar, then click **Settings** (or press **⇧⌘,**). Settings opens on **Account**.

![The Account settings with a round photo showing initials, a Name box, the sign-in email and a Two-factor authentication section with an Enable two-factor authentication button](https://mintcdn.com/heym/RxdohfEkT1hOgZzU/images/your-account/account-settings.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=RxdohfEkT1hOgZzU\&q=85\&s=08281f042e2e4207202206e7c392ec3b)

Settings → Account

## Change your name and photo

* **Name:** click the **Name** box, type, then click anywhere else. Heym saves it when you leave the box. It's the name in the sidebar and in Heym's greetings.
* **Photo:** click the round photo (it shows your initials until you add one) and choose a JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP image of up to 5 MB. If nothing changes after you pick an image, it's over 5 MB or in another format: pick a smaller JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP. Click the photo again to replace it. To remove it, click the **×** on its corner.

Everyone in a share sees your name and photo. Your email address is shown only to the people you invite, and to the owner of anything shared with you. In the **Share** window, the owner and the people they invite see each other under the name they signed up with (from Google or Apple, or typed when they first set up Heym), so changing **Name** here doesn't change it there. Invitation emails do use the **Name** you set here. Your photo is also public: anyone who has the image's link can open it. See [Share with others](/help/sharing.md).

## Change the language

1. In **Settings**, click **Preferences**.
2. Next to **Language**, choose **English** or **Deutsch**.

![The Preferences settings with the Language menu open, offering English and Deutsch](https://mintcdn.com/heym/RxdohfEkT1hOgZzU/images/your-account/language.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=RxdohfEkT1hOgZzU\&q=85\&s=9e10929e897028fe88aa450a3e4b0411)

Settings → Preferences with the Language menu open

## Your email address

**Settings** → **Account** shows the email you sign in with. You can't change it in Heym.

Heym doesn't use passwords. You sign in with **Continue with email** (Heym emails you a sign-in link, and in the Mac app a 6-digit code you type in), **Continue with Google** or **Continue with Apple**. If you need to use a different email address, write to [support@heym.app](mailto:support@heym.app). Trouble signing in? See [I can't sign in](/help/sign-in.md).

## Turn on two-factor authentication

With two-factor authentication, signing in also asks for a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone.

**1. Start the setup**

In **Settings** → **Account**, click **Enable two-factor authentication**.

**2. Scan the QR code**

Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. If you can't scan it, click **Can't scan? Enter key manually** and type the key into the app.

**3. Confirm with a code**

Enter the 6-digit code the app shows, then click **Verify & enable**. The section now shows that two-factor authentication is enabled and offers **Disable**.

From then on, after you sign in Heym shows **Two-factor verification** and asks for the current code from your app.

To turn it off, click **Disable** in the same section and confirm with **Disable**.

## Log out

Click your name at the top of the sidebar, then click **Log out**.

## Delete your account

Deleting your account removes your tasks, goals, habits, notes, life areas and everything else in your account. Life areas, goals and projects you shared are deleted for the people you shared them with too, including what they added. Heym waits 30 days before it deletes anything, so you can change your mind.

> [!WARNING]
>
> After the 30 days, your data is destroyed and can't be recovered. Scheduling the deletion also cancels a monthly or yearly subscription right away.

**1. Open the Danger zone**

In **Settings** → **Account**, scroll down and click **Delete account…** under **Danger zone**.

![The Danger zone at the bottom of the Account settings, explaining the 30-day grace period, with a Delete account button](https://mintcdn.com/heym/RxdohfEkT1hOgZzU/images/your-account/danger-zone.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=RxdohfEkT1hOgZzU\&q=85\&s=49bc466ca2d72edaef8b476e6b5b467f)

**2. Confirm with your email**

Type the email address you sign in with, then click **Schedule deletion**.

![The Delete your account window explaining the 30-day wait, with the account email typed into the box and the Schedule deletion button ready to click](https://mintcdn.com/heym/RxdohfEkT1hOgZzU/images/your-account/delete-account.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=RxdohfEkT1hOgZzU\&q=85\&s=0dfe664bcd15422d3114cd7f80c3461f)

**3. Confirm it's you, if Heym asks**

If you signed in more than 10 minutes ago, Heym shows **Confirm it's you**. Enter the 6-digit code Heym emails you, or the code from your authenticator app if two-factor authentication is on, and click **Verify**.

Heym emails you to confirm the deletion request. Until the deletion date, a banner at the top of Heym says **Your account will be permanently deleted on** that date. You can keep using Heym until then. With a monthly or yearly subscription, you're on the Free plan from now on, so anything beyond the Free limits becomes read-only (see [When you have more than Free allows](/help/plans.md#when-you-have-more-than-free-allows)). Lifetime stays until the account is deleted.

### Change your mind

Click **Cancel deletion** in the banner, or in **Settings** → **Account** under **Danger zone**. Your account and data stay as they are. Signing in alone doesn't cancel the deletion.

A monthly or yearly subscription doesn't come back when you cancel the deletion, because it ended when you scheduled it. To get Pro again, subscribe again from the menu under your name. Lifetime isn't affected.
